I am Maurice Adams of Adams’ Guitar Repair. Here is some insight into my background in music, playing and repairing guitars.
I have been playing guitar since I was a kid growing up in Pittsburgh, PA. I received a mechanical engineering degree from Case Western Reserve University and spent the rest of my time playing in cover and original music bands in the Cleveland area. I moved out to Los Angeles in 1998 and attended Musicians Institute in Hollywood.
With my engineering background I’d always tinkered with guitars and amps on the side, learning basic setups and electronics, but in 2003 I formalized my training in guitar repair by attending Summit School of Building and Repair in Canada on Vancouver Island. After returning to LA I set up my shop in beautiful Pasadena. I was quickly given repair work from local music stores and many of the guitar players in the area as people became impressed with my attention to detail, and professionalism.
Since then I’ve also delved into many side projects that continue to help build my skills as a luthier and musician, and which are just plain fun. Some of these projects include guitar and speaker cabinet builds, attending woodworking courses, and getting into tube guitar amplifier building.
It’s really been amazing where playing the guitar has led me. I can truly say there is nothing I enjoy more than being in my shop getting a setup dialed in just right for one of my customers. As a player myself, I know what a well set up guitar feels like and how important that is to someone when trying to to achieve their magical feel and tone.
I hope this gives you a better idea of who I am and I look forward to working with you on any guitar repair and service issues you may have. Thanks Again.
